  • 上士(Sergeant)是正规与全职国民服役军人通用的新加坡法定军阶之一。
  • 1966 年,新加坡武装部队训练学院 (SAFTI) 成立,旨在培训军官和士官(Non-Commissioned Officers)。当时,士官的军衔结构包括下士(Lance Corporal)、中士(Corporal)、上士、上士长(Staff Sergeant)、二级准尉 (Warrant Officer Class 2)和一级准尉(Warrant Officer Class 1)。
  • 1992年2月13日,时任国防部长(Minister of Defence)杨林丰博士宣布重组非军官军阶制度。在新的制度下,“上士”从1992年7月1日起增修为“一级上士”(First Sergeant)、“二级上士”(Second Sergeant)及“三级上士”(Third Sergeant),以提高正规军人的职业展望。

ETYMOLOGY
  • Sergeant is one of the general statutory military ranks for regular servicemen and full-time National Servicemen in Singapore.
  • In 1966, the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI) was founded to train both Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). At the time, the NCO rank structure comprised Lance
    Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Warrant Officer Class 2, and Warrant Officer Class 1.
  • On 13 February 1992, then Minister of Defence Dr Yeo Ning Hong announced the reorganisation of the military ranking system for noncommissioned officers. Under the new system, the Sergeant rank was revised on 1 July 1992 to comprise First Sergeant, Second Sergeant and Third Sergeant, in a bid to improve the career prospects of regular servicemen.
