  • 1965 年新加坡建立军队时,军士军阶只分上士、中士(Corporal)和下士(Lance Corporal)。
  • 1992 年 2 月 13 日,时任国防部长(Minister of Defence)的杨林丰博士公布重组非军官军阶制度。在新的制度下,“上士”(Sergeant)从 1992 年 7 月 1 日起增修为“一级上士”(First Sergeant)、“二级上士”(Second Sergeant)和 “三级上士”(Third Sergeant),以提高正规军人的职业展望。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Sergeant is one of the general statutory military ranks for regular and full-time national servicemen in Singapore.
  •  When Singapore set up its military in 1965, the rank of non-commissioned officers was divided only into Sergeant, Corporal and Lance Corporal.
  • On 13 February 1992, then Minister of Defence Dr. Yeo Ning Hong announced the reorganisation of the military ranking system for non-commissioned officers. Under the new system, the Sergeant rank was revised on 1 July 1992 to comprise First Sergeant, Second Sergeant and Third Sergeant in a bid to improve career prospects of the regular servicemen.
