释义

名词

一种豆类食材,通过油炸豆花或豆腐而成。

DEFINITION

Noun

 A deep-fried tofu puff。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “豆卜” is a combination of “豆”, meaning “bean”, and "卜", a transliteration of the English word “puff” via the Hokkien pronunciation pok.
  • Tau pok is a non-meat protein that is rich in antioxidants. It is commonly sold in local supermarkets and markets.
  • It is made by deep-frying bean curd.
  • As tau pok does not have a strong flavour of its own and is able to absorb the flavour of other ingredients readily, it works well in all sorts of dishes. It is one of the important ingredients in local favourites such as rojak, satay bee hoon, laksa and yong tau foo.
