释义

动词

一般指交通工具转换成反方向行驶。也称“U转”。

DEFINITION

Verb

To describe a vehicle making a 180-degree turn to travel in the opposite direction. Also known in Mandarin as “U转”.

由来
  • “调”有调换位置的意思,新加坡的广东话、客家话、潮州话等方言都用“调头”一词表达调转回头的意思。
  • “U 转”则是英语“U-turn”的意译。
  • 新加坡的U转告示牌分为两种,一种代表“前方有U转处”,另一种代表“附有车辆重量限制的U转处”。U转告示牌的设计是在蓝色四方形画上白色的倒U字形箭头。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The character “调” means “to change position”. Chinese dialects in Singapore such as Cantonese, Hakka and Teochew use “调头” to mean “turn around”.
  • As for the term “U转”, it is a paraphrase of the English term “U-turn”.
  • On Singapore roads, places where vehicles are allowed to make a U-turn are indicated by a rectangular blue sign showing a white inverted-U arrow. Some U-turn signs specify a weight limit for the vehicles that are allowed to make a U-turn there.

例句
