释义

名词

锡安路(Zion Road)的俗称。

DEFINITION

Noun

The colloquial name of Zion Road.

由来
  • 源自福建话 tua seh gai au
  • 大世界于1929年落成,由一处华人坟场修建而成,为附近低收入家庭提供了娱乐休闲活动。
  • 由于锡安路是位于大世界后方的主要道路,因此被俗称为“大世界后”。
  • 有说法认为锡安路名字的由来和当地原有的一座名为“锡安山”的山丘有关。“锡安”即“Zion”,这一词则是耶路撒冷(Jerusalem)的代称。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “大世界后” originated from the Hokkien dialect term tua seh gai au.
  • Completed in 1929, Great World Amusement Park was built on a former Chinese cemetery to provide entertainment and leisure activities for lowincome families nearby.
  • As Zion Road is the main road behind Great World Amusement Park, the road was colloquially known as “大世界后” (literally, “behind Great World”).
  • As for the road’s official English name, it is believed to have been named after a hill in the area known as Mount Zion. “Zion” is an alternative name for Jerusalem.
