• Active Ageing encourages lifelong learning in seniors to help them stay mentally and physically healthy, and maintain a sharp mind. Seniors are encouraged to actively participate in social activities, contribute to the family and society, and live happy, interesting and energetic lives.
• Lifelong learning includes improving one’s cultural literacy (such as learning calligraphy), enriching life knowledge and skills (such as learning psychological counselling skills and new technologies), and actively keeping up with the times (such as learning how to surf the Internet).
• In order to promote the concept of Active Ageing, the Council for Third Age (C3A) was established in 2007 to organise activities, seminars and workshops for seniors.
• In addition, Active Ageing Centres aim to provide activity spaces for seniors, hold events and courses for them, and deliver senior care services.The first Active Ageing Centre was opened at McNair Road in 2017. As of March 2024, there are 157 Active Ageing Centres in Singapore. By 2025, a total of 220 Active Ageing Centres are projected to be in operation.
