• The Mandarin term “仄爪哇” is the transliteration of the Malay name Chek Jawa, which is Tanjung Chek Jawa in full. The Malay word tanjung means “headland” or “cape”.
• Chek Jawa wetland comprises six major ecosystems: sandy beach, rocky beach, seagrass lagoon, coral rubble, mangrove and coastal forest.
• Chek Jawa was discovered by accident in 2000 when the area was being prepared for redevelopment.
• In 2007, the Singapore Government spent about S$7 million on new facilities at Chek Jawa, including a 1.1-kilometre-long boardwalk, the 20-metre-high Jejawi Tower, and a tourist information centre.
• In January 2013, the Singapore Government announced in a White Paper that Chek Jawa and Pulau Ubin would be marked as reserve sites for land reclamation.

The National Parks Board has recorded sightings of the Little Stint shorebird for the first time at Chek Jawa on Pulau Ubin. As other migratory birds have also been spotted on the island, it implies that Pulau Ubin could be an alternative route for migratory birds, in addition to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. • The Chek Jawa Visitor Centre was originally the resort villa of Landon Williams, the Chief Surveyor of Singapore. It was built in the 1930s and is the only remaining British Tudor-style building in Singapore.
• In 2017, the National Parks Board recorded five new animal species on Pulau Ubin: the Little Stint shorebird, the Long-winged Tomb Bat, the Big-Eared Pipistrelle bat, the Raccoon Pseudo-Orb Weaver spider and the Arrow Emperor dragonfly.
