由来
  • 马来语 Chek Jawa 的音译。Chek Jawa 的全称是 Tanjung Chek JawaTanjung 在马来语中指的是 “角”,即 “海角” 的意思。
  • 仄爪哇湿地是由沙滩、岩滩、海草泻湖、珊瑚碎片、红树林及滨海树林等六个主要生态系统组成。
  • 2000 年,仄爪哇丰富的生态环境在该区准备重新发展时偶然被发现。
  • 2007 年,新加坡政府花费大约新币七百万元为仄爪哇添加了新的设施,当中包括了长达 1.1 公里的步行道,20 米高的爪夷芭塔 (Jejawi Tower)和旅客咨询中心等。
  • 2013 年 1 月,新加坡政府颁布的白皮书中宣布将仄爪哇和乌敏岛(Pulau Ubin)列为可开发的预留土地。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “仄爪哇” is the transliteration of the Malay term Chek Jawa, which is Tanjung Chek Jawa in full. The Malay term Tanjung means “headland” or “cape”. 
  • Chek Jawa wetland comprises six major ecosystems, including sandy beach, rocky beach, seagrass lagoon, coral rubble, mangroves, and coastal forest. 
  • In 2000, the diverse ecological environment of Chek Jawa was accidentally discovered as the area was preparing for redevelopment. 
  • In 2007, the Singapore Government spent about S$7 million on new facilities at Chek Jawa, including a 1.1-kilometre long boardwalk, the 20-metre high Jejawi Tower, and a tourist information centre. 
  • In January 2013, the Singapore Government announced in a White Paper that Chek Jawa and Pulau Ubin are marked as reserve sites for reclamation.

  • The Chek Jawa Visitor Centre was originally the resort villa of Landon Williams, the Chief Surveyor of Singapore. It was built in the 1930s and is the only remaining British Tudor-style building in Singapore.
