ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “社区安全与治安计划 is a paraphrase of the English term “Community Safety and Security Programme”.
  • Formerly known as the Community Focus Programme, it was officially renamed in 1999 to its current title.
  • In this programme, the public cooperates with community organisations and the police to maintain community safety and improve security.
  • In 1999, the Singapore government announced that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and volunteers would jointly handle matters related to bomb shelters, as part of the Community Safety and Security Programme. Volunteers are responsible for organising crowds and guiding people to safe locations, while SCDF personnel are responsible for operating the safety equipment.
