ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “文化捐献配对基金” is a paraphrase of the English term “Cultural Matching Fund”.
  • In November 2013, MCCY set up a matching fund for donations, open for application to charity and public welfare organisations in the arts and heritage sector.
  • Under this scheme, donations raised by charities can receive a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Government.
  • The Cultural Matching Fund promotes cooperation between private organisations and arts groups, encouraging more private enterprises to invest in arts and heritage sponsorship.
  • Charities can use the first S$300,000 of the matching grant according to their own needs, such as for disbursing salaries and fees for training and rental, but must comply with the charities’ regulations for the use of funds. If a charity wishes to use the funds after the first S$300,000, it must consult the relevant authorities regarding the specific items for which the funds can be used on.
  • In 2015, the Government increased the maximum limit of the matching fund for arts and heritage donations from the initial S$10 million to S$15 million.
