DEFINITION

Noun

A venue for horse racing. Also refers to a venue for horse betting.

ETYMOLOGY
  • Singapore’s only horse racing venue is the Singapore Turf Club, located in Kranji in the northwest of Singapore.
  • In Singapore, people who watch horse races at the racecourse generally place bets on the horses legally. However, there are also gamblers who conduct illegal horse betting activities at venues other than the racecourse. These venues are also referred to as “马场”.
  • In June 2023, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of National Development jointly announced the closure of the Singapore Turf Club in March 2027 to make way for new housing developments.
