Singaporean Mandarin Database
This database contains a collection of Mandarin terms which have cultural, historical or sentimental value unique to Singapore. These terms may be used by Singaporeans in the past or at present. Some of the terms are read in print while others are used in our everyday conversations.
Non-working days established by the law. It is a paraphrase of the English term “Public Holiday”.
- Singapore has 11 public holidays. As some public holidays do not have fixed dates, the Ministry of Manpower will announce the dates for the gazetted public holidays for the upcoming year.
According to data provided by the Health Promotion Board, students generally maintain a high amount of exercise during normal days, but this tends to drop during the school holidays and public holidays. Adults also exhibit similar patterns. (Thumbs Up, 4/9/2017)
