A regional organisation of Southeast Asian nations. There are currently ten member states, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

  • “亚细安”为英文ASEAN（Association of Southeast Asian Nations）的音译。
  • 1967年8月8日，印尼、马来西亚、菲律宾、新加坡及泰国在曼谷签署《曼谷宣言》（Bangkok Declaration），亚细安由此成立。
  • 1980与1990年代，文萊、越南、老挝、柬埔寨及缅甸加入，与最初的五国形成如今的十个成员国。亚细安的宗旨是以平等的精神进行多边合作，以促进本区域的和平稳定、经济增长、社会进步及文化发展。自成立以来，亚细安在这几方面都作出了卓越的贡献。
  • 自1976年开始，亚细安不定期举行亚细安峰会（ASEAN Summit）商洽事务。新加坡在2018年担任亚细安主席国，主办了两届峰会。
  • 亚细安也有11个对话伙伴国与组织（Dialogue Partners），即澳大利亚、加拿大、中国、印度、日本、新西兰、韩国、俄罗斯、英国、美国及欧盟。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “亚细安” is the transliteration of the English term “ASEAN”.
  • The organisation was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
  • In the 1980s and 1990s, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar joined the organisation, making up the ten member states of ASEAN today.
  • The aim of ASEAN is to promote peace and stability, and accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavours in the spirit of equality and partnership. Since its establishment, ASEAN has made great strides in all these areas.
  • Since 1976, ASEAN Summits have been held from time to time for the discussion of various matters. Singapore assumed chairmanship of ASEAN in 2018 and hosted two summits.
  • ASEAN also has 11 Dialogue Partners, namely Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.
