  • “亚答”为马来语 atap 的音译。
  • 1960年代以前，当组屋还未成为新加坡居民普遍居住的公共住屋时，亚答屋相当盛行。
  • 亚答屋，顾名思义，就是使用亚答叶为屋子的建构材料，一般铺盖在屋顶上。这也是马来语 atap 的意思，主要指的是用于遮盖屋顶的材料。
  • 亚答屋流行于新马印等地，也是新加坡华族、马来族、印族等各种族人民普遍居住的住屋。亚答屋是乡村生活的一大特色。
  • 到了1970和1980年代，亚答屋的数量已大量减少，如今也走入了历史。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “亚答” is the transliteration of the Malay word atap.
  • Before the 1960s, when flats had yet to become the main mode of housing in Singapore, attap houses were a common sight.
  • As the name implies, attap houses make use of attap (Nipa palm) leaves in their construction, which are typically laid over the roof frame. The Malay word atap mainly refers to the materials used to cover a roof.
  • Attap houses were popular in the regions covered today by Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. In Singapore, they were a common form of housing for the Chinese, Malays and Indians, and were a major feature of kampung (village) life.
  • In the 1970s and 1980s, the number of attap houses decreased drastically. They have now become a thing of the past.
