  • 国泰戏院（The Cathay Cineplex，前称为Cathay Cinema）于 1939 年 10 月 3 日开幕，首部上映的电影是亚历山大·科达爵士（Sir Alexander Korda）的 "四根羽毛"（The Four Feathers）。
  • 国泰戏院属于国泰大厦（Cathay Building）的一部分，也是大厦第一处开放的部分。早期的国泰戏院设有 1,300 个座位，也是新加坡第一个设有冷气的公共场所。
  • 国泰戏院原是国泰机构属下的戏院。国泰机构是个电影制作与发行企业，由陆运涛创办。
  • 2000 年，因国泰大厦进行重建，国泰戏院暂时关闭，直到 2006 年 3 月才重新开张。
  • 2017 年 11 月 24 日，MM2 全亚影视娱乐公司收购了国泰机构的影院业务，当中包括国泰戏院在内的八家国泰影城（Cathay Cineplexes）属下的电影院。
  • 2022 年 6 月 27 日，因为客流量的原因，国泰戏院结束了运营。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Cathay Cineplex (formerly known as Cathay Cinema) was opened on 3 October 1939, and the first movie screened was The Four Feathers by Sir Alexander Korda.
  • The Cathay Cineplex was part of the Cathay Building and was the first portion of the building to be opened. The early Cathay Cineplex had 1,300 seats and was the first air-conditioned public space in Singapore.
  • The Cathay Cineplex was originally a cinema under the Cathay Organisation, a movie production and distribution enterprise, which was founded Loke Wan Tho.
  • In 2000, due to the reconstruction of Cathay Building, the Cathay Cineplex was temporarily closed until its re-opening in March 2006.
  • On 24 November 2017, mm2 Asia Ltd acquired Cathay Organisation’s cinema business, including eight cinemas under Cathay Cineplexes, encompassing the Cathay Cineplex.
  • On 27 June 2022, Cathay Cineplex ceased its operation due to low volume of moviegoers.
