由来
  • 酬神戏一般是常年举办的活动，主要是为了酬谢或答谢神明一年来给予的保佑。
  • 在新加坡，酬神戏一般都会连续演出两至三天。
  • 酬神戏的开场戏一般称为“扮仙戏”，即由演员扮演神明，赐福给台下的信众。扮仙戏的戏目包括《仙姬送子》、《八仙贺寿》、《三仙贺寿》、《跳加官》等。
  • “九皇爷诞”是新加坡华人民间信仰中的重要庆典之一，信众一般都会吃“九皇斋”，即实行连续三天或九天的斋戒。庆典从农历八月的最后一天开始，至农历九月初九晚间结束，而期间一些庙宇会上演连宵的酬神戏。

ETYMOLOGY
  • Chinese operas performed for the gods are organised throughout the year to thank the gods for their blessings in the past year.
  • In Singapore, such operas are generally staged for two to three consecutive days.
  • The opening performance is commonly known as “扮仙戏”, in which performers play the role of gods and bless worshippers in the audience. The repertoire includes “仙姬送子”, “八仙贺寿”, “三仙贺寿”, and “跳加官”.
  • The Nine Emperor Gods Festival (“九皇爷诞”) is an important celebration in Chinese folk religion in Singapore, during which worshippers may adhere to a vegetarian diet for three or nine consecutive days (known as “九皇斋”). The celebrations begin on the last day of the eighth lunar month, and last until the evening of the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. During this period, some temples stage Chinese opera performances to honour the gods through the night.
