A system in which primary and secondary school classes are divided into morning and afternoon sessions.

  • 英语 “double-session” 的意译。
  • 为了尽可能容纳更多学生，让更多孩子能够获得教育，许多学校自 1957 年起都实行了双班制。
  • 上午班的上课时间一般是从 7 时 30 分至下午 1时，下午班一般则是从下午 1 时至 6 时 30 分。
  • 双班制的实行给一部分教职人员带来许多不便之处。例如，由于两班的学生使用相同的学校设施，校长和老师在为所负责的学生制定适当的教育计划时，面临着许多障碍和约束。
  • 另外，因为教室通常供不应求，所以教职人员在安排补习班或强化班，以及规划时间表时也面临问题。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “双班制” is a paraphrase of the English term “double session system”.
  • Since 1957, many schools implemented the double session system to accommodate as many students as possible, so that more children are able to receive education.
  • Generally, morning classes are from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm and afternoon classes are from 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
  • The implementation of the double session system caused many inconveniences to a portion of the teaching staff. For example, as the students in both sessions use the same school facilities, principals and teachers face obstacles and constraints when formulating teaching plans for the students under their charge.
  • In addition, as classrooms were usually in short supply, the teaching staff also face problems in arranging remedial or intensive classes and planning timetables.
  • With the double-session system, school staff and students in the morning and afternoon sessions lack opportunities to socialise with each other, making it harder to develop a cohesive school community.
  • Due to the above reasons, the double session system was expected to officially end in 2000, and all secondary schools were converted to the single session system.
  • However, five primary schools are still implementing the double session system as of 2019 due to facility and venue constraints.
