后港位于新加坡东北部，北起盛港(Sengkang)，南达芽笼(Geylang)，东临巴耶利峇(Paya Lebar)，西至宏茂桥(Ang Mo Kio)。

Noun

Hougang is located in the northeastern part of Singapore. It is bordered by Sengkang to the north, Geylang to the south, Paya Lebar to the east and Ang Mo Kio to the west.

由来

后港这个名字源于福建话和潮州话au kang。“港”潮州话指的是江河的支流。这个地名寓意着后港位于实龙岗河（Serangoon River）的上流或后方，或位于海港后方。
后港曾经是一片林地，并设有不少养猪场。到了90年代，多数猪农已被安排搬至新建的政府组屋居住。
1979年，建屋发展局 (Housing and Development Board) 宣布将在后港区建新镇。
1980年，因讲华语运动的推行，所有的政府组屋新镇改为以汉语拼音命名，后港的英文名也从“Hou Kang”改为 “Hougang” 。
2011年，后港被纳入 “再创我们的家园” (Remaking Our Heartland) 计划，旧组屋将系统化地进行翻新。

ETYMOLOGY

The name Hougang originated from the Hokkien (Minnan) and Teochew dialect term au kang. The term “港” refers to “the tributaries of a river” in the Teochew dialect. Hence, the Mandarin name “后港” (Hougang) refers to the area just upstream of or behind the Serangoon River, or an area behind the harbour.
Hougang used to be a forested area that was home to many pig farms. By the 1990s, most of the pig farmers had been relocated into newly built government flats.
In 1979, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced plans to build a new town in the Hougang area.
In 1980, with the promotion of the Speak Mandarin Campaign, all public housing estates were renamed using Hanyu Pinyin. As a result, “Hou Kang” was renamed “Hougang”.
In 2011, Hougang was selected as part of the Remaking Our Heartland programme, which was launched to systematically rejuvenate existing estates.
