ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “霸王车” is a combination of the terms “霸王” and “”. The term “霸王” means unreasonable behaviour, such as running illegal operations and not paying when a ride should be paid for.
  • Due to employment difficulties, thousands of unlicensed taxis sprung up in Singapore in the 1960s.
  • According to the Road Traffic Act, drivers who illegally operate private hire cars will be fined up to $3,000, or imprisoned for six months, or both.
