  • 在中国唐代以前，“好彩”一词主要指的是“赌博手气好”或“行好运”。
  • 唐宋时期，“好彩”演化出“好在”的意思，用以表示具有“某种有利的条件或情况”。之后，人们使用它表达“好彩头”、“彩头”或“采头”的意思。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Before the Tang Dynasty in China, the Mandarin term “好彩” mainly referred to “having good luck in gambling” or “to have good fortune”.
  • During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the term evolved to include the meaning of “好在”, which was used to describe the presence of “certain favourable situations or conditions”. Subsequently, people used it to mean “good sign” or “good luck”.

购物中心玻璃门爆裂，整片玻璃瞬间化成碎粒落下，女子走快两步没被玻璃碎块打中，大呼"好彩"。（《联合晚报》，09/08/2016）
SAMPLE SENTENCE
When the glass door of the shopping centre shattered, the entire sheet of glass splintered into shards flying in all directions. The woman avoided the glass shards by mere seconds, and exclaimed “Luckily (for me)!” (Lianhe Wanbao, 09/08/2016)
