  • 前总理李显龙在2004年出任新加坡第三任总理时，宣布新内阁将有两位资政。吴作栋在卸任总理一职后将担任国务资政（Senior Minister，之前称为“内阁资政”），内阁资政李光耀则继续担任总理公署内阁资政，但英文名称改为“Minister Mentor，Prime Minister's Office”（之前的英文名称是“Senior Minister”）。
  • 内阁资政李光耀接受访问时解释，内阁资政（Minister Mentor）一职是在内阁中“扮演辅导者或指引者的角色”。
  • 2004年至2011年，由李光耀担任内阁资政。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The role of Minister Mentor was created in 2004, when Lee Hsien Loong took the helm as Singapore’s Prime Minister. Outgoing Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong was appointed Senior Minister, while Lee Kuan Yew, who had served as Senior Minister since 1990, was appointed Minister Mentor. (In Chinese, “内阁资政” was previously used to refer to Senior Ministers, but with the creation of the Minister Mentor role, “内阁资政” became the name for Minister Mentor, while Senior Ministers were called “国务资政”.)
  • When interviewed, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew explained that the role of the Minister Mentor was to serve as a “mentor or guide” within the Cabinet.
  • Lee Kuan Yew served as Minister Mentor from 2004 to 2011.
