ETYMOLOGY

  • Mount Faber has a total land area of 56.46 hectares and stands at a height of 105m.
  • In early 1845, the colonial government replaced the existing signaling device on Pulau Belakang Mati (now Sentosa) with a new maritime communication flagstaff on Mount Faber.
  • The colonial government assigned this project to Captain Charles Edward Faber, who was posted to Madras, India. He subsequently led a group of Indian prisoners to construct a path that leads up the hill.
  • Upon completion of the path, the government decided to rename Tulloh Blangan Hills as Mount Faber in honour of Captain Faber.
  • In 1970, the government carried out road extension works at Henderson Road, which led to the division of Mount Faber into two parts. While the eastern region kept its name of Mount Faber, the western region was renamed back to Telok Blangah Hills.
  • Mount Faber Park, which is located at Mount Faber, was officially built in the 1960s. In 1994, new infrastructural amenities were added to Mount Faber Park, with the hill’s landscape also receiving a redesign.
