  • 土生文化馆现位于亚美尼亚街39号（39 Armenian Street）、建于1912年的旧道南学校校楼（former Tao Nan School Building）内。其前身是亚洲文明博物馆，由于馆内的土生文化展品尤其受欢迎，在亚洲文明博物馆搬迁至皇后坊大厦（Empress Place Building）后，该建筑被重新改造为土生文化馆。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “土生文化馆” is a paraphrase of the English term “Peranakan Museum”.
  • The Peranakan Museum is a department of the Asian Civilisations Museum and is managed by the National Heritage Board.
  • The Peranakan Museum is currently located at 39 Armenian Street, in the former Tao Nan School Building that was built in 1912. It was formerly the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). As the exhibits of Peranakan culture at ACM were particularly popular, the building was repurposed as the Peranakan Museum after ACM moved to its current premises in Empress Place Building.
  • On 26 April 2008, the Peranakan Museum was officially opened to the public.
  • On 1 April 2019, the Peranakan Museum was temporarily closed for large-scale renovations, and it was reopened on 17 February 2023. The refreshed Peranakan Museum has nine galleries across three floors, which are divided into three main themes of “Origins”, “Home” and “Style”. This museum continues to hold one of the finest and most comprehensive public collections of Peranakan objects, exploring the art and culture of Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia. Through
    community interviews, stories and contemporary expressions, the museum aims to provide a multi-faceted experience for visitors and contribute to discussions of “what is Peranakan?”.
