• The rank of Sergeant is lower than Staff Sergeant but higher than Corporal. The rank insignia of a Sergeant consists of three chevrons.

• To become a Police Sergeant, one needs to undergo a six-month long residential training programme, which includes courses in police defence tactics, physical training, lessons in criminal law, as well as training as a Ground Response Force officer.

• Upon completion of their training, Police Sergeants may be dispatched to Neighbourhood Police Centres to gain relevant experience in policing matters and build up their leadership skills. After that, they will be dispatched to various departments and will take on different jobs such as frontline work, investigations or intelligence work.

Today, he is a Sergeant who leads a team at the Sembawang Neighbourhood Police Centre. Recalling how he had subdued a band of robbers with his team two years ago, he said, “These gave me great satisfaction - taking part in police operations to solve crimes, and serving the people.”
