由来
  • 布连拾街是与桥北路（North Bridge Road）平行的第六条主要街道。
  • 六马路原称“富林街”（Flint Street），之后为了避免与莱佛士坊（Raffles Place）的富林街混淆，便于1858年改名为布连拾街。
  • 布连拾街名称的由来是为了纪念一名律师布连拾（C.H. Prinsep）。布连拾律师原在六马路一带拥有一片豆蔻种植园，而其中部分园区后来被征用来兴建今天的布连拾街。
  • 有说法认为早期也有人将与布连拾街相邻的肃街（Short Street）称为“六马路”，但约定俗成，一般只将“六马路”当作布连拾街的俗称。
  • 布连拾街长老会磐石堂（Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church）是六马路最著名的建筑，于2000年1月12日被列为新加坡国家古迹。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Prinsep Street is the sixth major road that runs parallel to North Bridge Road.
  • It was originally known as Flint Street, but was renamed in 1858 to avoid confusion with another Flint Street in Raffles Place.
  • Prinsep Street is named after C.H. Prinsep, a lawyer. He owned a nutmeg plantation here, part of which was requisitioned to construct Prinsep Street.
  • In the early days, it is believed that some people regarded adjacent Short Street – instead of Prinsep Street – as “六马路” (“the sixth major road”). However, the consensus today is that only Prinsep Street is known as “六马路”.
  • Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church is the most notable building along Prinsep Street. It was listed as a National Monument of Singapore on 12 January 2000.
