ETYMOLOGY
  • On 21 July 1964, racial riots shook Singapore. To commemorate this day, the government designated 21 July as Racial Harmony Day in 1997, to remind Singaporeans to live together in harmony regardless of race or religion.
  • Racial Harmony Day is one of the commemoration dates observed in National Education, which was also implemented in 1997. On this day, schools in Singapore organise different observance or celebration activities.
