Refers to military personnel. Also known in Mandarin as “兵哥”.

由来
  • “阿兵哥”一词由台湾传入新加坡。
  •  “阿兵哥”多为口语中使用的词语,或用于非正式场合中。正式场合中,则用“军人”或“士兵”。
  • 1967年,新加坡实行强制性征兵制,凡年满18岁的新加坡男性公民及永久居民必须全职服兵役两年(豁免者除外),被分配到新加坡武装部队(Singapore Armed Forces)、新加坡民防部队(Singapore Civil Defence Force)或新加坡警察部队(Singapore Police Force), 成为全职国民服役人员(full-time National Serviceman)。
  • 服完两年兵役后,退役军人会成为战备军人(Operationally Ready National Serviceman),每年回营受训可长达40天,直至40岁或50岁。
  • 服役军人若符合条件,也可签约成为正规军人或职业军人(regular serviceman)。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “阿兵哥” spread to Singapore from Taiwan.
  • It is mostly used in conversation or in informal contexts. In formal contexts, the terms “军人” or “士兵” are used instead.
  • ƒSingapore implemented compulsory conscription in 1967. All male citizens and Singaporean Permanent Residents who have reached the age of 18 must fulfil their two-year National Service obligations(excluding exempted persons). They may be assigned to the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Civil Defence Force or Singapore Police Force as fulltime National Servicemen.
  • After completing two years of service, they transition to become Operationally Ready National Servicemen, and can be called up for training for up to 40 days per year, up to the age of 40 or 50.
  • Servicemen can also sign up to be regular soldiers if they meet the requirements.
