释义

动词

捐钱或物品以赞助。

DEFINITION

Verb

To provide monetary or in-kind sponsorship.

由来
  • 在新加坡,“报效”多用来指赞助社团的公益活动 (如施药、捐献物资等) 或宗教仪式(如提供酬神供品、修建庙宇等)。
  • 有一种说法认为“报效”一词源自福建话或潮州话的 po hau (“报孝”),而 po hau 含有报答与孝敬的意思。由于“孝”与“效”在福建话和潮州话里属同音,因此也写作“报效”。
ETYMOLOGY
  • In Singapore, the term is mostly used to refer to the sponsoring of community charity activities (such as donating medication and material resources) or religious ceremonies (such as providing offerings for deities and donating towards the building of temples).
  • It is believed that the Mandarin term “报效” originated from the Hokkien or Teochew term po hau (“报孝”), which means “to repay” and “to show filial respect”. As “孝” and “效” are homonyms in the Hokkien and Teochew dialects, the term also came to be written as “报效”.

例句
我们今年的仪式比往年的大,大约花了一万元左右,但这些经费都是由信徒报效。(《联合早报》,22/8/2017)
SAMPLE SENTENCE
Our ceremony this year is larger than those of previous years, costing about S$10,000. However, these funds are sponsored by the devotees. (Lianhe Zaobao, 22/8/2017)
