  • 婚宴的喜帖通常为红色，而人们收到请帖后一般必须破费花钱送礼。后来人们便将婚宴的请帖比喻成炸弹，即把钱包炸出一个大洞。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Invitation cards to Chinese wedding banquets are usually red in colour, and being invited to such a banquet means having to spend a considerable sum on a wedding gift or red packet. Hence, a wedding invitation became likened to a bomb as it would blow a big hole in the pocket.
