• Autonomous schools were established in 1994. They have greater flexibility in their curriculum. The Government also provides additional funding for autonomous schools to develop a more varied learning syllabus and to enhance students’ learning experience.
• In addition to paying the subsidised fees paid at all government and government-aided schools, students also pay an autonomous school fee.

Some autonomous schools are also SAP (Special Assistance Plan) schools, including Anglican High School, Catholic High School, Chung Cheng High School (Main), Dunman High School, Nan Hua High School, River Valley High School and St Nicholas Girls’ School.
