ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “酒保” is a paraphrase of the English term “bartender”.
  • The bartender’s main job is mixing cocktails and performing flair bartending on certain occasions. During flair bartending, the bartender will constantly toss, spin or manipulate alcohol glasses or cocktail shakers, and these challenging manoeuvres provide entertainment to the guests.
  • Generally, the bartender needs to memorise the recipes of various cocktails and quickly serve the drinks to guests without wasting excess alcohol.
  • In addition to mixing drinks, the bartender’s job also includes settling the bill for guests, operating the cash register, and cleaning the establishment.
  • Nowadays, other than their main responsibility of mixing drinks, the bartender also tries to communicate with every guest to provide better service.
