Noun

A device that detects the concentration of alcohol in human blood. Also known in Mandarin as “酒精测量器”, “测醉器” or “呼气测醉试验器”.

由来
  • 测醉器主要用于检测司机是否涉嫌醉酒或酒后驾车。
  • 根据公路交通法令（Road Traffic Act），警方可要求任何涉嫌酒驾的司机用手提测醉器进行酒精检测。司机若拒绝检测，可被警方逮捕。
  • 2016年，警方引进了移动测醉驾中心（Mobile Breath Evidential Analyser test centre），该仪器可以在现场配合测醉器进行更为精确和及时的酒精检测。

 

ETYMOLOGY
  • A Breath Evidential Analyser (BEA) is mainly used to detect whether a driver is drink-driving.
  • Under the Road Traffic Act, the police may require any driver suspected of drink-driving to undergo a test with a handheld BEA. A driver who refuses to be tested may be arrested.
  • In 2016, the police introduced the Mobile BEA Test Centre. This device complements the BEA in carrying out more accurate and timely alcohol measurements on the spot.
