  • 樟宜礼拜堂和博物馆隶属于新加坡国家文物局（National Heritage Board），由新加坡国家博物馆（National Museum of Singapore）管理。
  • 1988年，新加坡旅游促进局（Singapore Tourist Promotion Board，现为新加坡旅游局[Singapore Tourism Board]）仿照二战时期樟宜监狱内的礼拜堂，在监狱旁建设了新的礼拜堂。与此同时，新礼拜堂旁建立了博物馆来纪念战俘。
  • 1990年代末，因樟宜监狱扩建，新礼拜堂和博物馆搬迁至现址，即离原址约一公里外的樟宜北路上段（Upper Changi Road North）。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Changi Chapel and Museum operate under the National Heritage Board and are managed by the National Museum of Singapore.
  • In 1988, the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (now Singapore Tourism Board) built a new chapel next to Changi Prison, modelled after the chapel within Changi prison during World War II. At the same time, a museum was built next to the new chapel to commemorate the prisoners of war.
  • At the end of the 1990s, due to the expansion of Changi Prison, the new chapel and museum were moved to the present site at Upper Changi Road North, which is about one kilometre away from the original site.
  • The Changi Chapel and Museum were officially opened on 15 February 2001. 15 February is Singapore’s Total Defence Day, and is also the day Singapore fell in World War II. This day was chosen for its opening to enable Singaporeans to remember World War II.
  • In 2018, the Changi Chapel and Museum underwent large-scale renovations and re-opened on 19 May 2021.
  • There are eight main exhibition areas in the Changi Chapel and Museum. The exhibits include photographs, drawings, personal items and letters to family members of the prisoners of war in World War II. The museum also collects and exhibits the stories provided by the families of the prisoners of war.
  • The exhibits tell of the sufferings of the prisoners of war in the Changi prison, enabling visitors to contemplate and experience the perseverance of the prisoners of war in times of difficulties.
