由来

牛车水原貌馆于 2002 年正式开幕。
原貌馆坐落于宝塔街（今为步行街）的三栋店屋内，设馆的目的是为了还原牛车水在开埠初期的样貌。
原貌馆里展示了许多文物，并通过文物还原了当年南来新加坡打拼的人的生活环境。
原貌馆的各个展区为访客提供了一系列多感官展示和互动式的讲解，让访客通过自己的感官真切地体验旧日的生活。
1998 年，新加坡政府为牛车水的发展推出了一份蓝图，旨在促进该地区的旅游业。在蓝图中，就包括建设一个能以故事化的形式讲述早期南来移民的生活历程的展览馆。
2014 年 10 月，原貌馆为了增加展区内的细节并改善访客体验，闭馆进行翻修，至 2016 年 1 月才重新开馆。
因新型冠状病毒疫情和国际旅游限制的延长，原貌馆于 2021 年 4 月 27 日正式由新加坡旅游局（Singapore Tourism Board）接手管理。

ETYMOLOGY

The Chinatown Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2002.
The Chinatown Heritage Centre occupies three shophouses at Pagoda Street (now a pedestrian street). Its purpose is to present the look of Chinatown in the early days.
The Chinatown Heritage Centre displays many artefacts that depict the living environment of Chinese migrants who came to Singapore for work in the early days.
The various exhibition galleries of the Chinatown Heritage Centre provide visitors with a series of multi-sensory displays and interactive narratives, enabling visitors to experience life as it was in the past.
In 1998, the Singapore Government launched a blueprint for the development of Chinatown, aimed at promoting tourism in the area. The blueprint included the construction of a museum that narrates the lives of early Chinese immigrants through a storytelling format.
In October 2014, the Chinatown Heritage Centre was closed for renovation to enhance details within its exhibition galleries and improve the visitor experience. It was reopened in January 2016.
Due to COVID-19 and prolonged international travel restrictions, management of the Chinatown Heritage Centre was officially taken over by the Singapore Tourism Board on 27 April 2021.
