由来
  • 源自福建话或潮州话 chap poet keng au。
  • “十八间” 为驳船码头（Boat Quay）的俗称。有说法认为驳船码头边早年有18间店屋，因此得此称号。
  • 除了 “十八间”，驳船码头也俗称为 “十三行”、“吊船码头”、“水厝尾”，以及 “十八溪墘”。
  • 由于沙球朥路是驳船码头沿岸店屋背后的第一条马路，因此便俗称为 “十八间后”。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “十八间后” originated from the Hokkien or Teochew dialect term zhap buay keng au.
  •  The term “十八间” (literally 18 units) is the colloquial name of Boat Quay. It is believed that this name originated from the 18 shophouses beside Boat Quay in the early years.
  • In addition to “十八间”, Boat Quay was also colloquially known as “十三行”, “吊船码头”, “水厝尾”, and “十八溪墘”.
  • Circular Road is colloquially known as “十八间后” (literally behind the 18 units) as it is the first road behind the shophouses along Boat Quay.
