释义

名词

马路的高架路段,可横跨水面或地面。

DEFINITION

Noun

An elevated section of a road. It may span over other roads or water bodies.

由来
  • 早在1970年,《星洲日报》的报道已经使用这个词语。
  • 汽车天桥随着高速公路的出现而面世,其功能是让两条公路无需平面交叉,可以高低错开,使车流更通畅。
  • 从1990年起,所有的汽车天桥都有命名,并在附近设立告示牌显示名称。
ETYMOLOGY
  • As early as 1970, the term “汽车天桥” was used in Sin Chew Jit Poh.
  • With the introduction of expressways, flyovers were constructed to promote smoother traffic flow by having roads at different heights as opposed to intersecting at ground level.
  • Since 1990, all flyovers are assigned names, which are displayed on nearby signboards.

例句
我们的公路有高度限制,是因为一些路段有汽车天桥或人行天桥横越,若重型车辆没有遵守高度限制,撞上天桥,造成的破坏轻则车辆和天桥损坏,重则天桥坍塌伤及无辜行人和其他司机骑士。(《联合早报》,18/9/2018)
SAMPLE SENTENCE
Singapore’s roads have height restrictions because there are flyovers and pedestrian bridges over certain sections. If heavy vehicles fail to adhere to the height limits and collide with these structures, the repercussions could range from minor damage to the vehicle and the bridge to more severe consequences such as the collapse of the bridge and the loss of human life.
