由来
  • “甘榜”一词是马来语 kampung 的音译，泛指乡村。  
  • 在新加坡尚未城市化与实行组屋政策之前，乡村实为大部分人民所熟悉的居住环境。居住在甘榜意味着邻里之间的交流频繁，大家守望相助、互相关怀，发挥团结的精神。
  • 尽管大部分甘榜自1980年代后便已销声匿迹，但所谓的甘榜精神仍可延续到新型的居住模式。因此，为了提倡国人发挥团结精神，政要、基层组织及社工团体都强调与鼓励居民之间培养甘榜精神。
  • 于2017年竣工的海军部村庄 (Kampung Admiralty) 是建屋发展局 (Housing & Development Board) 与卫生部 (Ministry of Health) 等多个机构携手打造的新型居住空间。这一组屋区主要是为了打造“现代甘榜”，将专供给乐龄人士的住家、饮食、医疗等设施融为一体，让乐龄人士的日常生活更便利，并促进居民之间的互助关怀。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “甘榜” is the transliteration of the Malay term kampung, meaning “village”.
  • Before urbanisation and the advent of mass public housing in Singapore, most people lived in villages. Neighbours interacted frequently, looking out and caring for one another, and demonstrating a sense of togetherness.
  • By the late 1980s, most of Singapore’s villages had vanished. In order to keep the kampung spirit alive among neighbours in modern flats and houses, there have been consistent efforts over the years by Government officials, grassroots committees and volunteer groups to advocate the kampung spirit of cooperation and community-mindedness.
  • In 2017, Kampung Admiralty was completed. Developed by the Housing & Development Board in partnership with several agencies including the Ministry of Health, it is a new residential concept that aims to be a “modern kampung”. The development integrates flats for seniors, eateries, medical facilities and other amenities, offering the elderly greater convenience and promoting kampung spirit in the community.
