ETYMOLOGY
  • ŸThe Mandarin term “多元种族” is a paraphrase of the English term “multi-racial”.
  • ŸSince the founding of the nation, Singapore boasts four major races, namely Malay, Chinese, Indian and Eurasian. To promote racial harmony, Singapore has implemented a number of policies, such as the bilingual education system, a fair military service system, and a system for Housing and Development Board flats that mandates families of different races to live within the same neighbourhood, effectively maintaining multi-racial social harmony.
  • As of 2020, the resident population in Singapore are made up of 74.3% Chinese, 13.5% Malay, 9.0% Indian, and 3.2% other races.
