ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “新加坡绿色计划” is a paraphrase of the English term “Singapore Green Plan”.
  • Singapore Green Plan was Singapore's first environmental blueprint.
  • In 1992, then Ministry of Environment (now Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment) announced the Plan with the objective of ensuring that Singapore’s economic growth will not harm the environment.
  • In 2002, the authorities launched the Singapore Green Plan 2012, which was the second plan to achieve environmental sustainability in Singapore.
  • On 10 February 2021, the Singapore Government announced the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which sets clear targets under various pillars, such as for Sustainable Living, Green Economy, Resilient Future, and City in Nature. These targets are meant to drive businesses, individuals, and the public sector towards sustainability over the next decade.
  • The Singapore Green Plan 2030 is a joint initiative by five ministries, namely the Ministry of Education, Ministry of National Development, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Transport.
