ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “精深技能发展局” is a paraphrase of the English term “SkillsFuture Singapore” (SSG).
  • SSG was established in 2016 to encourage citizens to better master skills, enhance the quality of education and training systems, and foster a positive culture of lifelong learning.
  • To overcome unknown challenges in the future, the Government hopes that Singaporeans can upgrade their skills through SkillsFuture and maintain their competitiveness, advancing with the times.
  • Under this national movement, Singaporeans aged 25 and above will receive a $500 SkillsFuture Credit, which can be used to pay for courses in various fields. After the first $500 grant, the Government will continue to provide regular top-ups.
  • To alleviate the impact of Covid-19, SSG launched the SGUnited Skills and SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways programmes in late 2020, benefiting some 9,800 individuals.
