  • 烟客据说是英语“smoker”的意译。
  • 在新加坡,禁烟令(smoking prohibition)首次于1970年推出,目的是为了保护非吸烟者吸入二手烟。
  • 根据其中的吸烟(在特定地区禁烟)法令(Smoking (Prohibition In Certain Places) Act),公众禁止在某些区域的公共场所吸烟。这些区域包括建筑物、食品零售场所、交通节点、公共服务交通设施,体育和娱乐设施等。
  • 新加坡法律也规定,18岁以下的青少年吸烟是违法的,违例者可被罚款高达300元。
  • 在2018年,禁止烟客吸烟的地点有所扩大,包括电影院、娱乐中心、幼儿培育中心(early childhood development centre)、运动区、工厂、政府学校等,并且在2019年1月1日生效。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “烟客” is said to be a paraphrase of the English word “smoker”. 

  • In Singapore, smoking prohibition was first introduced in 1970 to protect non-smokers from breathing in second-hand smoke. 

  • According to the Smoking (Prohibition In Certain Places) Act, smoking is prohibited in certain public places. These include buildings, food and retail establishments, transport hubs, public transport facilities, and sports and recreational facilities.  

  • Under Singapore law, youths under the age of 18 are not permitted to smoke. Offenders may be fined a maximum of $300.  

  • In 2018, the number of places where smoking is prohibited was expanded to include cinemas, leisure entertainment centres, early childhood development centres, sports areas, factories, and government schools. This went into effect on 1 January 2019.
