ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “社交访问准证” is a paraphrase of the English term “Social Visit Pass”.
  • There are two types of social visit pass: short-term and long-term, depending on the length of stay in Singapore.
  • Holders of the Short-Term Social Visit Pass are allowed to remain in Singapore for up to 30 days.
  • Only tourists and those entering Singapore to seek medical treatment can apply for the Short Term Social Visit Pass.
  • If a pass holder wishes to remain in Singapore for more than 30 days, an extension application must be submitted to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority at least one week before the pass expires.
  • The Short-Term Social Visit Pass can be extended for a maximum of 89 days from the date of entry.
  • The Ministry of Manpower stipulates that Short-Term Social Visit Pass holders cannot undertake any profit-making or non-profit work or business in Singapore.
  • Long-Term Social Visit Pass holders can remain in Singapore for a period of two years.
  • A person who meets any of the following conditions can apply for a Long-Term Social Visit Pass:
  1. Spouse of a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident;
  2.  Below 21 years of age and whose parents are Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents;
  3. Those whose children are Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents;
  4. University graduates coming to Singapore to seek employment;
  5. Mother, paternal grandmother, or maternal grandmother of a Student’s Pass holder;
  6. Visitors who intend to give birth in Singapore.
