英国海峡殖民地时期发行的合法货币。简称 “叻币”。

由来
  • 英语 “Straits dollar” 的意译。
  • 海峡殖民地的其中一个华文别称是 “叻屿呷”，即石叻坡（新加坡）、槟榔屿（槟城）与吗六呷（马六甲）的统称。
  • 1899 年，英国海峡殖民地货币委员会（Straits Settlements Currency Committee）在新加坡、马来亚与婆罗洲地区发行了叻币作为新的合法货币，从而保证了钞票流通的可靠性。
  • 在叻币发行之前，海峡殖民地除了依赖墨西哥与南美洲各州的银元货币供应，也使用香港、美国、日本和英国的贸易货币。
  • 1940 年，叻币由马来亚元（Malaya dollar）取代。
例句
