释义

名词

  1. 内幕消息或有益提示。
  2. 小费。

DEFINITION

Noun

  1. Helpful pointers or insider information.
  2. Money given to show appreciation.

由来
  • 英语“tips”的音译。最初,香港人按广东话的发音将“tips”译为“贴士”。该词符合香港人的音译构词习惯,“tip”的发音与“贴”的音相近,而“s”的音与“士”的发音相似,结合起来就建构了“贴士”这个词语。之后,该词及其用法流传到了新加坡。
  • 在新加坡,大多数本地人习惯用“贴士”来表达“内幕消息”或“有益提示”的意思,相比之下,用以表示“小费”的频率较低。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “贴士” is the transliteration of the English term “tips”. It was initially coined in Hong Kong, where the Cantonese pronunciation of “贴士” sounds very similar to “tips”. Usage of the term gradually spread to Singapore.
  • In Singapore, the term is more commonly used to mean “helpful pointers” or “insider information”, rather than “money given to show appreciation”.
