The branch road off South Bridge Road situated at Chinatown. It can also refer to the small hill along this road. Also known in Mandarin as “安详山”, “青山亭”, “翠兰亭” and “翠兰岗”.

由来
  • 安祥山的名称源自于该地段早期的主人谢安祥。
  • 谢安祥祖籍福建，诞生于马六甲，之后到新加坡谋生经商。谢安祥后来购买了如今安祥山一带的土地，并将其重新发展及兴建了数十座房子。
  • 19世纪初，安祥山一带的土地原为一位名为查尔斯·史谷士（Charles Scott）的人所拥有，主要用于种植豆蔻和丁香。当时的安祥山因此也称之为“史谷士山” （或“史格士山”），而土地几经易手后才由谢安祥购得。期间由于土地售卖给了名为约翰·任美（John Gemmill）的著名拍卖行家，因此安祥山也曾称为“任美山” （或“仁美山”）。 
  • 安祥山山脚早期为一处华人坟山青山亭，后于 20 世纪初被移除。
  • 安祥山一带的房屋具有 “新加坡式” 的建筑特色，中西合璧，体现出不同文化与民族特色的融合。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The name Ann Siang Hill originated from the land’s early owner, Chia Ann Siang.
  • A Hokkien born in Malacca, Chia Ann Siang came to Singapore to make a living as a businessman. He later bought land in the Ann Siang Hill area, redeveloped it, and built dozens of houses there.
  • In early 19th century, the land in the Ann Siang Hill area was originally owned by a man named Charles Scott and was mainly used to grow nutmeg and cloves. As a result, Ann Siang Hill was also known as Scott’s Hill. After several changes of hands, the land was eventually bought by Chia Ann Siang. Before this, as the land was sold to a famous auctioneer named John Gemmill, Ann Siang Hill was also known as Gemmill’s Hill.
  • In the early days, the foot of Ann Siang Hill was a Chinese burial ground known as “青山亭”, which was exhumed in the early 20th century.
  • The houses in the Ann Siang Hill area have architectural features that are quintessentially Singaporean, combining Chinese and Western elements and reflecting the integration of different cultures and ethnic characteristics.
