A transport hub for large public vehicles (buses) to begin or end bus routes.

由来
  • 早期由建屋发展局（Housing Development Board）建设的巴士转换站，一般设在新市镇的中心点，也靠近商业中心。因为许多组屋区在1980年代以前建成，当时新加坡还未有地铁系统，因此还未有连接巴士转换站与地铁站的计划。
  • 转换站的建设和管理由陆路交通管理局（Land Transport Authority, LTA，简称陆交局）接手后，当局更重视将巴士转换站和地铁站连接起来，例如2002年本地第一个冷气巴士转站在大巴窑地铁站旁建设，而2003年建设的盛港巴士转换站衔接着地铁站和轻轨列车站。
  • 2013年，陆交局推出“畅行乘车计划”（Walk2Ride），在巴士转换站等地点兴建有盖走道，到了2018年预计全岛已建了总长200公里的有盖走道，衔接地铁、轻轨和选定的巴士转换站。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Early bus interchanges built by the Housing and Development Board were usually located in the heart of new towns and were close to commercial centres. As many housing estates were built before the 1980s, that was before Singapore had implemented the train system, there was no plan to connect bus interchanges to Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations yet.
  • After the Land Transport Authority (LTA) took over the construction and management of bus interchanges, the authorities placed greater emphasis on connecting bus interchanges to MRT stations. For example, the first air-conditioned bus interchange was built next to the Toa Payoh MRT Station in 2002, while the Sengkang Bus Interchange built in 2003 was connected to the MRT station and Light Rail Transit (LRT) station.
  • In 2013, LTA launched the “Walk2Ride” programme to build sheltered walkways around bus interchanges. By 2018, it is estimated that the island will have a total of 200 kilometres of sheltered walkways, connecting MRT stations, LRT stations and bus interchanges.
