ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “快熟面” is a paraphrase of the English term “instant noodles”.
  • A characteristic of instant noodles is that they can be quickly prepared for consumption, after cooking in boiling water for a few minutes.
  • The noodles are generally made by deep frying or baking. After cooking the noodles in boiling water, seasoning and ingredients can be added in before eating.
  • Since the 1970s, there have been local instant noodle manufacturers in Singapore.
  • Today, instant noodles with local flavours (such as laksa flavour) and Healthier Choice instant noodles are more popular.
