DEFINITION

Adjective

Items that are smaller in size and shorter in length compared to others of the same type.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “迷你” is the transliteration of the English term “mini”.
  • As the term “迷你” (mini) is more expressive than words such as “小型” (small) and “微型” (micro), it is commonly used as a prefix in Mandarin. The word has a wide range of uses, with examples such as迷你雨伞 (mini umbrella), 迷你相机 (mini camera), 迷你手机 (mini mobile phone), 迷你模型 (mini model), and more.
  • In Singapore, the term “mini” can also be used to modify objects that are already small or exist as a smaller version of the original object. For example, “Little Guilin” in Bukit Batok was originally built to mimic the landscape of Guilin in China, but another similar landscape not far from “Little Guilin” is known as “Mini Little Guilin”.
