The plates that new drivers must display on their car windscreen, or on the front and back of their motorcycle, in their first year of driving. Also known in Mandarin as “新手牌”, “三角
新手牌” or “P牌”.

由来
  • 刚拿到汽车或摩托车驾驶执照的司机称为 “实习司机” (new driver)。
  • 自1994年9月1日起，按新加坡政府规定，所有实习司机开车的第一年期间，都要在车子前后各显示一面法定的实习牌(probation plate)，这个实习牌也叫“P牌”。
  • 实习牌的设计由一个红色的三角形摆于一个黄色的四方形上方组成，因此俗称“三角牌”。
  • 汽车类的实习牌须分别显示在前后挡风镜的右上角。
  • 摩托车类的实习牌须分别放在车头大灯与后车牌的正上方。
  • 实习司机开车时若没显示实习牌，将面对罚款，而在第二次触犯法令之后，就可能会被吊销驾驶执照。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Drivers who have just obtained a driving licence are called new drivers.
  • From 1 September 1994, the Government mandated that all new drivers in their first year of driving are legally required to display probationary plates (P-plates) on the front and rear of their car.
  • As the design of the P-plate consists of a red triangle within a yellow square, it is commonly known as a “三角牌” (literally, “triangle plate”).
  • For automobiles, probation plates are displayed on the upper right corner of the front and rear windshields.
  • For motorcycles, probation plates are displayed directly above the headlights and the rear licence plate.
  • New drivers who do not display a P-plate while driving may be fined. Their licences may be revoked if they violate the law a second time.
