  • 日语“一番”(ichiban)的音译兼意译。
  • “一番”是日语汉字词,原意是“第一”、“最初”,后来衍生出“最好”、“很好”的意思。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The term is both a paraphrase and a transliteration of the Japanese term “一番” (ichiban).
  • Ichiban originally meant “first” or “initial”, but later came to mean “best” or “very good” as well.
  • The Mandarin term “一级棒” was first used in Taiwan and subsequently spread to other Mandarin-speaking regions, including Singapore.
